I’m sick of people saying they want to write and not doing it. If you want to write, write. Pick up a pen, write I want to write, why don’t I? And keep going. That’s writing. Now you’re doing it, not just talking about it. Be yourself, that’s what you’re born to be.
You start from a bottomless pit of abysmal ignorance. So do we all. Welcome to the club. You can’t start without starting. Does that make sense? Does not doing it make sense? No. Do I need to answer? It’s self evident.
Stop driving yourself and everyone else mad. Including me, I’m mad enough. You’re mad if you don’t do it. And maddening if you keep talking about it and not doing it. Do you want to drive everyone around you mad? Don’t be hopeless, helpless, help yourself. Do it. It’s easy. And wonderful, when you do it.
The same applies to engineering or anything else. If you want to do it, you will do it. If you don’t you won’t. Its up to you. You make yourself, no one else. You write the story of your life. What do you want it to be, blank pages? You may say, I don’t know how. You’re right, you don’t. You will when you do. Learn by doing. You have to start somewhere or else you never start. You start knowing nothing and you learn as you go along. Were you born knowing everything? No. Admit it. But you can find out.
You are as good as anyone else. You can do it if you do it, not if you don’t. Obvious, isn’t it? I knew nothing when I started, this is writing, isn’t it? If I can do it, so can you. Don’t be a baby, whatever age you are. Babies know nothing, they learn by doing. How good were you at talking before you knew how? If a baby can do it, so can you.
There are enough mad people in the world, we don’t want more. You’re mad if you don’t do what you want to do. Drive yourself sane, do it. I’m doing it now, right here. So can you, in any field. Did you hear about the farmer? He was out standing in his own field. That’s writing. That’s doing it. An old story, retold. It gets easier with practice.
All the old sayings are right. Practice makes perfect. You have to start somewhere. Every journey starts with a first step. Baby’s first steps. They lead to adulthood. Grow up. Take the step. You did as a baby. If you did it then you can do it now. Stop worrying and start doing. I can’t do it for you. You can, only you. You will always regret it if you don’t. You don’t need regrets. Or want them. Start. Do it. It’s called living. Take the first step. Many more will follow.
If I had a gun I’d shoot you. Luckily, I haven’t. You save me the trouble. Not doing what you want is suicide. Start living. Start being. I have a gun. I fire it. Starter’s orders. Take off! You may come last, but at least you were in the race. You did it. You can’t win if you don’t enter.
You can win. Your enemy is yourself. Be your friend. Befriend yourself. Do it. Then you have won. All you have to do is do it. Put your toe in the water. Enter. Learn to swim. It’s enjoyable. You will be glad if you do, sorry if you don’t. As now. Be glad. Do it.
Happiness is better than sadness. Take it from one who knows. I did it, so can you. And I am and was a mere nobody. Be someone. Be yourself. Do it. Or die. Never live. Living is better. Choose life. Make yourself glad, not sad. Just do it. That’s all that’s to it. Don’t wait.
Today is now. Stop wishing and start doing. The first step is the hardest. Many never take it. Its easier than you think. You have nothing to fear but fear itself. You’ll get over it. Or else you’re a monumental turn off.
I prefer you as a monument to achievement. So does everyone else. Including you. That’s about the size of it. I can’t say more, I could say less. Whether you do it or not is anybody’s guess. I did. So can you. Get cracking! Writing, if that’s what turns you on. Or whatever.
For God’s sake do something.
