Revolt

The revolt of the young against the old is an old story retold.

You are and were wrong is their never ending song.

We will change things before we’re old like you, die soon, good riddance too.

Students are revolting, is that a joke, sorry I spoke.

If I don’t like what you say shut up, you dictator you, I can be a dictator too.

How dare you say I am like you?

The worst of it is it is true.

Contribution

If nearly everything is rubbish should I contribute?

If I say something you don’t like do you say shoot?

If you wish to shoot your mouth off does someone say shut up?

You must be a looney, you must be a nut.

If you have a screw loose what I say may be no use.

Ask yourself the same, two can play this game.

Who gives you or me the right to choose?

Don’t step on my blue suede shoes.

Mirror Two

The past shouldn’t have happened, so some people say.

Yeah, well, what about today?

Like, what’s happening man, as the hippies say?

Is everything okay?

We can do nothing about the past but we can work now.

If we bother, anyhow.

If we know the past is wrong what is our present song?

Why can’t we get along?

The past is more or less the same as now, people made mistakes, and how.

And we make them now.

Today will be the past before you know it, who will blame you then?

Other men?

The time we can change is now, the past is over anyhow.

Forget the past, do not relive it.

If he did you wrong, forgive it.

Who is perfect, who’s all wrong, is what aboutery your song?

Bear no grudge, do not complain or we forever live in pain.

A child knows happiness is best.

I lay down my pen, I take a rest.

Listen to the child you were.

Let us not kill him or her.

I say what everybody knows.

You say shut up, I suppose.

So on and on it goes.

Stepping on each other’s toes.

Do you want war to end?

In that case I am your friend.

Make do and mend.

Impossible Odds

Conquering false gods.

Love your neighbour as yourself, your neighbour is all mankind.

Someone said that, do you mind?

The gods of hate and greed we do not need.

Putting yourself first is the worst.

We are cursed.

Where do I begin?

I who sin.

I do not wish to live and die a lie.

Thank God for faithful friends and true.

I don’t know what to do.

Do you?

Be true.

The answer comes from me to you.

Via who?

What Price Love?

Without wishing to overstate my case may I say the human race is a disgrace?

Death and famine stalk the land and as far as they are concerned things are grand.

Have they got out of hand?

Mad dictators preaching hate, power maniacs, await your fate.

There are two sides of a coin, which side will you join?

Is moderation forever dead, what price love a wise man said.

If you have to ask you do not know, live and let live, I told you so.

As if you didn’t know.

Politicians

Politicians want you to vote for them, not what they say.

When you vote for them they run away.

Saying have a nice day.

If you believe them more fool you.

They want to fool you too.

The Irish border is an Irish stew.

They got themselves into it, now let’s see them get out.

Stupidity is all about.

Who anyway or what is in charge?

Evil forces are at large.

Seventy-Six

I’ve heard so much rubbish in my life I might as well go deaf.

I don’t know if I’m right or left.

I see good and bad in everything, for every Winter there is a Spring.

It’s how you use it, not what you do.

Or how you do it, that is true.

Should I put my head in the sand like an ostrich and say everything is grand?

I have not shut my eyes and ears, you reduce me to tears.

Don’t realise my worst fears.

I am a man of seventy-six years.
