Book and CD’s

15th Decenber, 2017

Michael,

Here is the book you asked for, recently published, The 50 Francis Street Photographer, compiled by his grand daughter, Suzanne Behan, photographs of people and places mostly in the Liberties area of Dublin, mostly in the 50’s and 1960’s.   Black and white photographs and nice large text.

Today I got the 50 duplicated CD’s of my Great Irish Songs CD from CD Duplication, the company, costing 60 euros including courier delivery, ordered by me only a few day ago. One enclosed here, with the printing on the CD as specified by me, although not exactly laid out to my specification.   Pretty good all the same, I think.

Here also is my design work for the artwork on the CD on an A4 sheet of paper, compare with the layout on the CD itself, I prefer mine, but ok. My idea is to redesign the CD cover as on the A4 page here, complete with surrounding green square and with the existing Vale of Avoca picture on the inside of the front cover, if I can get around to it. This sort of thing requires time, thought and know how and a fair amount of experimentation. I’ll have a go, it would be an improvement.

Apart from the Great Irish Songs CD here also are the following titled CD’s:

  1. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, a Book at Bedtime from BBC radio 4, ten fifteeen minute readings, a first novel by the author and very funny it is.
  2. Eternity 5 Views, BBC radio three talks, speakers of various religions.
  3. Pop and Reality, great series of short talks from the BBC.
  4. Epicureans, Stoics, Cynics, on Greek philosophies.
  5. Irish Singers Interviewed, three of Miriam O’Callaghan’s Sunday programs on RTE radio one, Shane McGowan and others interviewed.

Also here an article about Ireland’s Own magazine taken from the Sunday Times.   I just might advertise in that magazine if I ever have the funds. Fuddy duddies like my stuff, hopefully not only them, but a person has to start somewhere. Whats wrong with the past?

Best wishes and a happy Christmas, we will speak before that of course. Here comes the turkey!   David or whatever-you-call-him Tich Ennis

Usually

There’s usually more to things than meets the eye.

You may find that out before you die.

If not then.

Or when?

Remember the four year old boy drowned on a beach in Greece?

In designer clothes, poor, give my head peace.

The news is in the business of sensation, disneyfied, to shock the nation.

It happens here in Ireland too, don’t rush to judgement, would you like someone to do that to you?

A dead drug addict on the street outside the Dail, is that the whole story, not at all.

More or less believe nothing that you hear or see, its not that simple, read history.

The news is not news but views.

That sells papers, shock, outrage.

Turn the page.

Calm down, its not that bad.

The world is mad.

As presented to you, on radio and TV too.

The internet is the latest place for lies.

Does it fool the wise?

I said usually not inevitably always, trust your judgement, not some journalist.

In some cases speed is required, don’t ask me everything, I’m tired.

Like crossing the street or when your house goes on fire.

Once more I say may your judgement be good.

Don’t mistake trees for the wood.

Explaining Stupidity

I will now explain stupidity to those who have no brain.

There are none of those, the emperor wore no clothes.

A child could see and see it all.

Yet others chose blindness turning their faces to the wall.

Use your brain you dope you lazy thing.

See through the emperor or king.

Stupidity is not using your brain, you have it, use it.

It is really there, you didn’t lose it.

Is it true you’d rather die than think?

If so that’s why you’re stupid, my pen runs out of ink.

Hurdles

There’s always another hurdle before you come to the end.

Keep going and you’ll get there, my friend.

No one said it would be easy, if it was easy everyone would do it.

Then when you have it done they say there’s nothing to it.

I dislike when people say you would know that.

So would they if they bothered to find out, know a dog from a cat.

Are successful people especially gifted or do they just work hard?

Believe me my friend it pays to think or else get up the yard.

Solution

Concepts are converging, so a Russian scientist said.

Things are mighty complex, will I know before I’m dead?

The Devil has been described as the master of confusion.

String theory is a ball of twine, just another illusion.

The theory of everything, when will it emerge?

Oh my God simplicity, towards thee I ever urge.

When theory and practice are one in one place then and only then are we in a state of grace.

Human race wash your face.

Think

Why is it illegal to think?

I ask myself, I have a drink.

Be careful what you say.

They might lock you up today.

Or shoot you if they have a gun.

You’re not the only one.

In Poland they had gutters in police stations to let the blood run out.

Some still thought their system better, they had not found out.

Who says its all sweetness and light here?

I turn to beer.

Utopia is atop the hill, next to the looney bin, they’re climbing still.

Will they ever get there? If they have the will.

Sloppy Guy

I am a messy sloppy guy, don’t ask the reason why.

I was born to feel not think, I can do things, I write with ink.

Technical explanations leave me cold, I have grown to be so very old.

When they tell me what to do but leave out how I’m all at sea I cannot plough.

So I should ask some other guy, less sloppy than you or I.

Maybe some guy says it clear, I wish he would show up here.

Or preferably do it for me while I drink a cup of tea.

Will that ever be?

Why leave it all to me?

Set me free.

Yours frustratedly.

I want to do things in the simplest possible way.

That’s all I’ve got to say.

Today.

Or for now anyway.
