Genocide

Long on diagnosis, short on cure.

I listen and I hear, must I endure?

Alright, I’m old and easily bored.

Have I missed the point through inattentiveness, metaphorically I snored.

Is this what gives academicism a bad name, gentlemanly, polite, you know the game.

Long live civilisation whatever that may be.

What’s the answer to genocide, a cup of tea?

Your answer, BBC.

Mirror Two

The past shouldn’t have happened, so some people say.

Yeah, well, what about today?

Like, what’s happening man, as the hippies say?

Is everything okay?

We can do nothing about the past but we can work now.

If we bother, anyhow.

If we know the past is wrong what is our present song?

Why can’t we get along?

The past is more or less the same as now, people made mistakes, and how.

And we make them now.

Today will be the past before you know it, who will blame you then?

Other men?

The time we can change is now, the past is over anyhow.

Forget the past, do not relive it.

If he did you wrong, forgive it.

Who is perfect, who’s all wrong, is what aboutery your song?

Bear no grudge, do not complain or we forever live in pain.

A child knows happiness is best.

I lay down my pen, I take a rest.

Listen to the child you were.

Let us not kill him or her.

I say what everybody knows.

You say shut up, I suppose.

So on and on it goes.

Stepping on each other’s toes.

Do you want war to end?

In that case I am your friend.

Make do and mend.

Court

Blackening one person’s name does not make another’s white.

If you believe that of yourself, goodnight.

So are some people shades of grey as far as you may know?

Including yourself, you ought to know.

Who is your judge and who are you to judge?

Yourself I say, and do not fudge.

As far as I am concerned the jury’s out.

I am inclined to give myself the benefit of the doubt.

Politicians

Politicians want you to vote for them, not what they say.

When you vote for them they run away.

Saying have a nice day.

If you believe them more fool you.

They want to fool you too.

The Irish border is an Irish stew.

They got themselves into it, now let’s see them get out.

Stupidity is all about.

Who anyway or what is in charge?

Evil forces are at large.

Seventy-Six

I’ve heard so much rubbish in my life I might as well go deaf.

I don’t know if I’m right or left.

I see good and bad in everything, for every Winter there is a Spring.

It’s how you use it, not what you do.

Or how you do it, that is true.

Should I put my head in the sand like an ostrich and say everything is grand?

I have not shut my eyes and ears, you reduce me to tears.

Don’t realise my worst fears.

I am a man of seventy-six years.

Truth Tellers

Truth tellers are not welcome it seems to me.

Oh well, the best is yet to be.

Can I have a good cup of tea?

Look all around you, see the worst.

So much with lies and falsehood cursed.

Hear everyday ordinary political speech.

Is the truth beyond their reach?

Or ours.

Grow flowers.

I write by the way of a bouquet.

This is what I have to say.

People say what suits them not what they think about a lot of things.

This is true of many kings.

Note I do not say all.

Extremism could kill us all.

That’s all.

God’s Fatal Error

He made me. I let him down.

Into a hole in the ground.

The rest is history.

It is no mystery.

He trusted me.

I will exhume if I can.

To fulfill his plan.

God being God can rise again.

The question, when?

When I get down to it.

Should I do it?

I suppose so.

Here I go.

Call me mister Slow.

Now I know.

His mistake was mine.

It happens all the time.
