Truth Tellers

Truth tellers are not welcome it seems to me.

Oh well, the best is yet to be.

Can I have a good cup of tea?

Look all around you, see the worst.

So much with lies and falsehood cursed.

Hear everyday ordinary political speech.

Is the truth beyond their reach?

Or ours.

Grow flowers.

I write by the way of a bouquet.

This is what I have to say.

People say what suits them not what they think about a lot of things.

This is true of many kings.

Note I do not say all.

Extremism could kill us all.

That’s all.

God’s Fatal Error

He made me. I let him down.

Into a hole in the ground.

The rest is history.

It is no mystery.

He trusted me.

I will exhume if I can.

To fulfill his plan.

God being God can rise again.

The question, when?

When I get down to it.

Should I do it?

I suppose so.

Here I go.

Call me mister Slow.

Now I know.

His mistake was mine.

It happens all the time.

Daggers Drawn

Why are we at daggers drawn until dawn?

Who fights a duel except a fool?

Death rather than dishonour, yes, he said, as for me I’d rather stay in bed.

He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day.

So they say.

Why fight all night, why be uptight?

Alright.

I am seventy-six and survived some dirty tricks.

Its as clear as mud to me its better if we agree.

Now and then, as Elvis sang, there’s a fool such as me.

People just like me died young, alone, unhonoured and unsung.

I don’t wish to die for a flag or any other rag.

That’s not my bag.

Nor do I wish to die alone in a tangled mess of blood and bone.

Why can’t we leave each other alone?

Talk, at least on the telephone.

Friendliness is not unknown.

Blood or an ice cream cone?

I know which choice is mine.

I hope the weather keeps fine.

Love Is The Word

In the beginning was the word then it became absurd.

Love became hate and shut Heaven’s gate.

Lies were chosen, love was frozen.

War and misery putting first me.

Bitter fruit we eat, when may friends meet?

Triviality came first, the best lost to the worst.

Are we cursed?

Once more the word will be when truth is set free.

Free us all from Hell, this prison cell.

The jailer is me, I was blind, now I see.

Turn the key.

Set us free.

So the best can be.

Say the word.

Love is heard.

Your Point Of View

Why can’t you agree with me?

Is that the problem, you see?

From your point of view do you say the same thing too?

Communes fall apart, they always do.

Who’s turn to wash the dishes or sweep the floor?

I’ve had enough, I’m going out the door.

I can’t stand it any more.

Idealism appears unrealistic, it doesn’t work.

Unfortunately many want to shirk.

It does work when each one is a saint.

Are you? I ain’t.

People putting themselves first is the name of the game.

To their eternal shame.

Its human nature, for better or worse.

Some pray, some curse.

Funny Clothes

Why do people now wear funny clothes?

Apparently now anything goes.

I won’t say they get up my nose.

I always thought Bermuda shorts looked pretty stupid, but now look.

If they were photographed would you buy the book?

My sister gave me what I think is called a djellaba, but she said no.

She said a djellaba has a hood, so now I know.

I said that garment suits the odd very hot sunny day.

Will I ever wear it?

I may.

You Know

You know when something is good, you don’t have to be told.

What you are told may be fool’s gold.

And often is, showbiz.

What suits you suits you, that’s that.

You may like a dog or cat.

Or not, or a bird singing in a tree.

You are me.

Do you understand?

That’s grand.

You are unique, everyone’s a freak.

On some things almost everyone agrees.

We need peace in times like these.
