The Nice Guys

I and my brother are to form a pop group called The Nice Guys, isn’t that a good name?

It’s a fantastic name said James, all the same.

Now all we need is an act.

That’s a fact.

If I mumble and stutter will people think I’m a nutter?

They could be right, who knows, show business shows.

Or we could open and shut our mouths saying nothing at all, why not?

We’ll give it everything we’ve got.

Here come The Nice Guys, stand back, don’t faint.

Is it the end of the world, it ain’t.

I have nothing to say today but I say it anyway.

How did my day go, I got some things done.

Still more to do, when will there be none?

I got some cigarettes on tick, that’s the trick.

And milk too for me and you know who.

I may ring someone about a problem, I rang before.

He’s busy, encore, encore.

By the way why are some poets so bloody one track minded, full of doom and gloom?

A rainbow has many colours, decorate your room.

I thought I might say something, but no.

Maybe I will, and then go.

I don’t know.

Just for the sake of something to do, I speak to you.

Me too.

Something is better than nothing Shakespeare said.

Or someone else who’s dead.

That’s what I think he said.

For what its worth, I spoke.

No joke.

Okay, pig in a poke.

I’ll smoke.

Don’t let the weather affect your mood.

It is no weather for going nude.

Half an hour ago the sky was black, it looked like rain.

Now it looks like Spain.

That’s what I said, one day.

That day has gone away.

The only constant is change said some man, maybe a Hindu.

Was it you?

Will this poem change the world for the better?

This letter.

I urgently await an answer.

Can I cure cancer?

Not without trying.

Is living dying?

I wish to wake from a bad dream.

That things are as they seem.

Don’t wake me until then, don’t wake me up.

I shut up.

That appears abrupt.

Must the world be corrupt?

I look forward to a change of course, of course.

Back to source.
