(Letter in the Sunday Times, Irish edition, 11th June, 2017):
A brilliant article by Justine McCarthy on the gardai and state dysfunction (“New broom must sweep gardai clean”’, Comment, last week). The gardai are defenders of the law, at least in theory and sometimes in practice. They risk their lives from time to time. They’re only human. All too human, sometimes. No one’s perfect, but a bit closer to perfect would be better. People lose respect for authority when it is revealed as corrupt.
