Kevin,

Criomhthann said he loves rock ‘n’ roll, here it is on three DVD’s along with an explanatory letter to John White, to whom it needs no explanation. This is the music we danced to as teenagers, happy music as George calls it. And some of these people are still alive though not exactly kicking!

This was a mixture of black and white music, rhythm and blues and country music, a synthesis. Thesis, synthesis, antithesis, no, that’s philosophy. Kant, I think. But could he?

Teenagers? Jung and easily Freudened.

Anyway, Elvis, the shake that shook the world. He had ants in his pants. Who is or was the king of rock ‘n’ roll? There are two schools of thought. Some say Elvis, others Bill Haley. Who is or was the greatest of them all? A moot point. Whichever one you’re listening to at the moment.

An audiovisual spectacular for you and all the family to enjoy. Will you never grow up?   Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry was sent into outer space on, I think, a seventy eight. I hope the Martians enjoy it.

Seventy Eights were records which played at seventy eight revolutions per minute. The revolution will be televised. And it is on these DVD’s. Bring culture to the masses!

Great wisdom may be imparted from the old to the young. Or maybe not. Life is a continuum. How long is a piece of string? It depends where you cut it.

We are standing on the shoulders of giants, said Isaac Newton. He did not have rock ‘n’ roll in mind, it not having been invented yet. He was culturally deprived. Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast. Don’t take that personally.

Of course there are many more great rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm and blues peformances, but is eternity long enough? This is just a sample.

Huey Piano Smith and the Clowns (Rockin’ Pneumonia and The Boogie Woogie Flu) are notable by their absence. As Frankie Ford says on Sea Cruise (here) ‘I’ve got the boogie woogie like a knife in the back’.

Etcetera, etcetera. And so say all of us.

Just let me hear some of that rock ‘n’ roll music, any old way you choose it, got a back beat you can’t lose it. Chuck Berry. Here it is!
