Evening

Now in the evening of my days I watch the children play.

Once I was as them, time has gone away.

I was innocent, I did not know what things meant.

I grew older with the years, and fears and tears.

I asked questions, stated facts, watched life’s play through many acts.

Sometimes I joined in applause, always looking for a cause.

More or less I know the truth, forgotten by me in my youth.
